President of the Russian Federation continued a series of meetings dedicated to realization of the State Arms Program. On July 30, Vladimir Putin held a meeting called “Implementation Status of the State Arms Program in the Part of Arms Procurement for the Navy”.
“…Foundations of the National Naval Policy until 2020 were approved on May 29. This document identifies measures on security and protection of Russian national interests in the World Ocean.
We believe that our country must preserve and strengthen the status of one of the leading naval powers in the world. And our Navy should have all capabilities to efficiently implement multiple tasks”, said the President at the beginning of the meeting.
Issues of building brand new naval forces were also discussed in the meeting. In accordance with the State Arms Program, 4.44 trillion Rubles will be allocated for this purpose which constitutes 23.4 per cent of all the State Arms Program funds. About one third of these funds will be transferred to contractors during the next five years.
The most part of the appropriations will be spent on serial acquisitions of new armaments. It will allow to raise the share of modern arms and equipment in the naval forces up to 30 per cent by 2016 and up to 70 per cent by 2020. One of absolute priorities is to create balanced naval formations equipped with long range high precision weapons. 51 modern surface combat ships and 16 multi-purpose submarines will be inducted in the Navy by 2020.
